Sarangkot Secrets - Coffee Farm Village Tour
Duration
5-6 hours
Price
from USD 50
This farm tour is one of best things that you can do in Nepal. This is not our word, it’s the word of many guests that we have taken to the farm. It is special because it brings together the Trimurti of tourism (Nature, Culture and Adventure) through scenic jungle hike, village tour and local lunch prepared by the women’s group. And you get to taste local highland arabica coffee! But for those with a deep-seeking eye, the most beautiful aspect of this project is how it brings together the entire village to conduct a tourism activity that benefits not just a single enterprise but the entire village.
While you’re in Sarangkot, going on this farm tour is the best thing you can do to yourself and the best thing you can do to our village!

Sharing Seeds x Superview

Sharing Seeds is a non-profit organization in our village that we are collaborating with to offer this tour. The tour takes you to an Arabica Coffee farm in Pandeli village. The proceeds from this tour is used to pay the women’s group that makes your lunch, offer free coffee saplings to the village and ensure that the local coffee growers get a good rate for their cherries.

Your hike will start from Superview Lodge, Sarangkot around 10:30 in the morning. After about 2.5 hours of hiking straight, up and down the hills through the woods and villages, you'll end up in the coffee farm in the heart of Pandeli village that is at the center of this activity.

Enjoy the view of the glorious Himalayas on a clear day during your hike.

Rest from your hike at arguably the best vantage point to enjoy the view of Fewa Lake.

The village of Pandeli and Sarangkot has many coffee farms. Remember though that they are not industrial, large scale farms. It’s families planting a couple dozen trees. Perhaps a slightly modest size of all is the one in picture, Abiskar’s Coffee Farm with about 200 trees. Abiskar is also the chairman of Sharing Seeds. He is a creative, social entrepreneur who is always looking for impact driven community tourism projects. Sharing the benefits from your activity to your community is a great example of sustainable tourism and a great way to live in general. You can only keep well if you also pay attention to the wellbeing of your surroundings.

Sustainability is reflected in many other aspects in this farm. For example, of the two methods of removing sticky mucilage from the beans before drying, they use the honey process which preserves the fruity flavor of the beans and uses less water than the wet method, water being a scarce resource in Sarangkot.

Coffee saplings being ready for donation to farmers in the neighboring village. Sharing Seeds appreciates and acknowledges the symbiotic relationship between itself and its community therefore allocating a portion their revenue towards support of the farmers that are the pillars of its success story.
